Acer x freemanii ‘Jeffersred’, also marketed as Autumn Blaze®   |   Freeman Maple

‘Jeffersred’ is a spectacular autumn tree, widely planted in Australia. Originating from a cross between A. rubrum and A. saccharinum, it combines the best attributes of its parents and features some of the best autumn colour of the hybrid red maples.

This well structured and very adaptable cultivar is an ideal shade or specimen tree for larger gardens, and is stunning as an avenue planting.

Produces small red female flowers before the leaves emerge in spring. These can develop into pairs of green samaras (a dry, winged, ornamental fruit), but this is rarer in Australian conditions.

The deeply lobed leaves are a rich green, changing to vibrant shades of orange-reds and scarlet in early autumn.

Bark is dark grey-brown, thin, and rough in texture, becoming furrowed with age.

Growth rate it moderate, with an oval to rounded habit that is dense and uniform.

Height: 13-15 m. Width: 10-12 m.

Acer x freemanii ‘Jeffersred’ is the largest of our red maple trees. For smaller options check out ‘Fairview Flame’ and October Glory®.
