Bleeding Heart.  Syn. Lamprocapnos spectabilis

This unique and graceful perennial plant has charming deep pink and white flowers. The unusual flowers are heart shaped, almost like a dagger has pierced the heart making it bleed, hence its common name of a Bleeding Heart.

Dicentra are cool climate plants native to Siberia, northern China, Korea and Japan, and are best suited to a light shaded area in the garden. Also happy growing in a large pot where moisture is readily available.

After a short winter dormancy, soft green fern-like leaves emerge from the basal clump. These are followed by arching stems, underneath which appear a row of heart shaped blooms. Up to a dozen flowers dangle along the stems, like a natural charm bracelet.

Height: 60-70cm.

Also known as Lady’s Lockets or Dutchman’s Breeches.
