Paeonia lactiflora ‘Pink Derby’   –   Herbaceous Peony

Many people fall in love with ‘Pink Derby’, and once you see its very showy blooms it’s easy to see why. One of the more stunning varieties, perfect for viewing in the garden and enjoying inside as a cut flower.

‘Pink Derby’ is a mid-season cultivar and produces large, fragrant, bomb-type blooms. Each bloom has a multi-coloured central mound of pink, cream, and white petalodes, sitting on top of the bold pink guard petals. Blooms are held on strong stems that grow to about 90cm and bend gracefully. The larger blooms may need extra support.

Bred by Myron Bigger of Kentucky, USA, and released in 1966. ‘Radiant Red’ is one of the parents of ‘Pink Derby’, though the other parent is unknown. Bigger also bred ‘Kansas’, among other peonies.
