Paeonia lactiflora RED MAGIC ‘Hei Hai Bo Tao’ (黑海波涛) – Herbaceous Peony
This mid-to-late season flowering variety produces double blooms in a vivid, deep, cranberry-red. Magic is the right word.
Flowers are lightly fragrant, have a large petal count, and also feature a darker central tuft.
Stems grow to 60-90cm tall, and make for a neat plant.
Bred in China, where it is known as Paeonia lactiflora ‘Hei Hai Bo Tao’ (黑海波涛), which translates to ‘Black Sea Waves’. It has been given the trade name Red Magic in the English speaking world.
