Paeonia lactiflora ‘Virginia Dare’ – Herbaceous Peony
‘Virginia Dare’ is a mid-season cultivar that has stood the test of time, with an exquisite form that is pleasing in its simplicity.
As the clear white single blooms open they reveal a central cluster of golden stamens. Blooms have a light, sweet fragrance and can also withstand the weather.
Flower stems are slender and upright, and can benefit from some additional support. Foliage is bushy and deep green.
Introduced in 1939, ‘Virginia Dare’ is a creation of Dutch peony breeder Abraham Newhouse. He bred the cultivar during his time in Michigan, USA.
