Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Bläuling’ – Lacecap Hydrangea
Bläuling is a medium sized and very freely flowering hydrangea cultivar, growing to about 1 m tall. The lacecap type flower heads are large and fully ringed with overlapping and lightly serrated ray-flowers. Flowers are light blue in acidic soils, and purple or pink in neutral and alkaline soils. Flowering usually occurs from January to March.
This cultivar can also produce a second blooming, arising from well-developed lateral buds.
Bläuling means blue butterfly in German. Introduced by the Swiss Federal Research Institute for Horticulture in 1984.
Syn. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Bluebird’.
