Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Goliath’ – Mophead Hydrangea
‘Goliath’ is a vigorous shrub, growing up to 1.5 m high. Known for its large flower heads, 20-22 cm across. Sepals are also large in their own right, serrated, and heart shaped.
Colour is deep pink in alkaline soils, purplish-blue or blue in acidic soils. This cultivar blooms mid-season and is free flowering. Good for drying as well.
‘Goliath’ was bred by Friedrich Matthes of Germany (1870-1948), and released in 1923.
