ummer Malus ‘JFS KW213MX’ syn. ‘Raspberry Spear’ – Crab Apple
Malus ‘Raspberry Spear’ is a new variety of crab apple, released in 2022. This dense, upright, narrow crab apple blooms in spring with masses of deep pink buds opening to bright magenta pink flowers. Foliage emerges a deep purple in spring before becoming dark green. This colour is maintained until the older leaves begin to bronze in late summer, eventually turning shades of orange in early autumn.
Small (~1 cm), purple-red fruits develop in abundance post-flowering, ripening to deep bright red. These ornamental fruits persist into late autumn or early winter, adding to the seasonal interest.
Habit is narrow and tightly columnar. Perfect as a specimen tree in small gardens, or for formal plantings such as avenues.
Excellent disease resistance.
