Prunus salicina ‘Mariposa’ – Blood Plum
‘Mariposa’ is one of the largest blood Plums, with heart-shaped fruit that is great fresh and also used for preserves, jams and juices. Plums have dark red skin with some spotting, and deep red, juicy sweet flesh with excellent flavour. Fruit is soft when fully ripe and semi-freestone, making the pit easy to remove.
A mid-season variety, with fruit maturing in late January – early February.
Growth is vigorous, with an upright habit.
Requires pollination to bear fruit, and ‘Satsuma’ and ‘Flavour Supreme’ are suitable pollination partners. Other suggested pollinators are Narrabeen and Santa Rosa.
Tree Care
Plant in a sunny position with well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilise when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
